Doesn’t this word take you back to your childhood? Maybe you can even hear your mother’s voice saying, “Dear, remember you need to share your toys with….”, and you can fill in the blank with that best friend’s, sister’s or brother’s name. When we were younger, we didn’t understand how important it was in our development as human beings. As we have matured (hopefully), what we should be sharing is much more significant than that fluffy, stuffed animal or our favorite building blocks with our siblings. Even if someone claims they’re not “very religious” or not a fan of “organized religion”, one can’t deny the fact it’s still a basic human response to share our bounty when others are in need. But while searching for scripture that spoke to me on this subject, I was reminded the very core of the word share is what Jesus’ entire ministry centered around. My original purpose in my search was to find how many times share is mentioned in the bible; but instead, I was struck by the long list of things to share with others. Topics for sharing the Word of God, sharing food, sharing your faith, sharing joy, and scripture came up as just a few suggestions. Lightbulb! So, it doesn’t make it any more important whether the word share is mentioned 10 times or 10,000 times throughout scripture. It’s very obvious that was God’s intent was from the beginning of creation. So significant that God sent his only son, Jesus, to further impart its importance on you and me. He wants everyone to know – He wants everyone to believe – He wants everyone to share in His promises and ultimate glory! How can we do a better job in following His direction? I believe that’s why I feel so committed and excited every week to share God’s words with you. But I can’t do this alone! If you tell one person by sharing “From God’s Lips”, then maybe, just maybe, we can make a difference in letting others see all the goodness that comes from being a believer. It may make a difference in one person’s day. It may cause one person to turn towards the love and forgiveness that Jesus promises, no exceptions. One small act can change the world. As Mother Theresa so famously said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” Hebrews 13:16
