The word seek wouldn’t necessarily be identified as a positive word. It would depend on what you are seeking and if you are successful in your discovery. Is it fame or fortune? Or maybe you are seeking peace or just want to be loved. Another thought came to my mind when that word spoke to me… the game of hide and seek! Surprisingly, it is not from memories as a child, but fond memories as an adult, of playing this familiar children’s game. I don’t know whether I was targeted by the children of friends and relatives for playing because I didn’t have any children of my own, or because they saw I had such youthful exuberance and energy (or I was the only one that said “yes”). The nieces, nephews and their little friends were full of joy as they strived to seek all my special hiding places. Then, many times, having found me, they would pick the same spot for me to find them. We would play over and over again, each child always squealing with delight when I found them, or the little giggles when I got close to discovering their hiding place. Again, what is it that you seek? The reality of the children’s game is that we are always found. However, in real life, maybe we are confused as to where to search or maybe don’t always want to be found. It may be that we are seeking the wrong things or looking in the wrong places. I picture Jesus standing right in front of me, the easiest of “hiding places,” saying, “I’m right here, standing beside you – always beside you. You don’t need to seek me.” I have to admit, maybe it’s me that is hiding, afraid to be found by the one that knows everything about me – my strengths and my weaknesses. Take some time this week to focus on our priorities in what we are seeking. I challenge you (and myself) to come out of your hiding place and show yourself by putting your arms around Jesus and praise Him for always being right in front of you.

“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
