Constant

What is ever-constant in our lives?  What never changes?  What love lasts forever?  My mind is filled with these questions, trying to focus on what He wants to say.  I smile, as I remember that our 48th wedding anniversary is this week.  Constant – not always perfect, but perfect for us.  We were high school sweethearts and my first (and only) love.  Our first date was “Love Story” and I remember this cute 18-year-old boy taking me home to meet his mother and father for the first time.  From the beginning, he has always been passionate about his interest in cars.  I love to watch the Food Network and all the cooking challenge shows.  I enjoy movies like the Sound of Music and his favorites are all action!  We both go about doing things differently but somehow, like the perfect cake recipe, it always comes out to be perfection (for us).  I’ve always believed that God brought us together to be constant companions as husband and wife.  Marriage, or any relationship that lasts, requires the right mix of ingredients for success.  If you measure out too much of one or more ingredients it can change the finished product.  I believe Jesus gives us the perfect recipe when it comes to our relationships, which includes ingredients beginning with love rooted in our Christian values.  Another important ingredient, to remain constant, is forgiveness.  You and I are only human.  Many times, we assume how someone feels, or we get our feelings hurt when that wasn’t the intention.  We blow things out of proportion and the word constant in our relationships becomes a distant memory.   So, I’ll dedicate this week’s word “constant” to my husband of 48 years.  Thank you for being my constant companion, my constant supporter and my constant love!   It’s taken hard work, humility, forgiveness and a little humor mixed in to get to this point; and we could not have done it without the one true constant – Jesus.  I pray that we all take time to look at the beautiful, constant friendships we are surrounded with and remember to thank God for being the best example of constant when it comes to His love that He showers on us every day.   Note:  The scripture I chose below was read during our wedding ceremony.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.  1 Corinthians 13
