| Are you still in pilgrim mode? I pray that you are still walking with me on this journey towards “your sacred place.” Were you able to walk the labyrinth last week in contemplation? If not, there is always time to make a commitment to walk with God. Remember, our journey is not easy. There are many things that pull us away from our path – Don’t give up! If you were able to walk in quiet this past week, what did you experience? Did you listen for God’s still, small voice? This week, I invite you to focus on another exercise of giving thanks for the many things we encountered on our journey. Through regular prayer, giving thanks to God should always be included. When we sit around the Thanksgiving table, we give thanks for the same things (although important) every year – family, our meal, the ones that prepared it and so on. But again, we need to go deeper. Wouldn’t it make more of an impact if we were to write our many blessings down on paper? This practice is called a type of litany, which is a “prayer consisting of a series of invocations and supplications.” Writing our own litany was an assignment during one of our silent retreats many years ago. I still keep that “masterpiece” of thanks with me today, which keeps me focused on what’s most important in my life. I’m grateful that I have that constant reminder. And, of course, it should always be a work in progress. | ||
| So, this week’s challenge of walking as Pilgrims is to create your own written Litany of Thanks. You’ll be surprised as I was with the long list of things that come to the surface that you realize have been important factors on your journey of faith. All these things have, all along, been leading you on towards your “sacred place.” Don’t think about it – don’t stress over it. Just pull out a note pad or blank sheet of paper and start writing. It also may help to spend some quiet time afterwards to reread your list and let it all settle into your soul. I will be writing along with you this week my new litany of thanks. Being thankful this time of year (and throughout the year) shouldn’t be something we take lightly. Don’t believe it’s just good enough to give thanks for all the surface “stuff.” Many times, it takes doing something new – something uncomfortable – to get to the core of why we are blessed. Everything that has happened on our journey, even the high winds, the rough seas, along with the sunrises and sunsets have played key roles in our journey. I will pray for you this week that your Litany of Thanks will open you eyes to God’s plan for you and keep you on His path. | ||

Just thought I’d let you know what I did for the Litany and the week of doing a labyrinth. Visited the National Shrine in St. Augustine Florida called Our Lady of La Leche. They have a beautiful Rosary Garden where you can walk and contemplate and give thanks for our my blessings. Unfortunately we had visitors with us, so I could not spent the quiet time I would have liked. But will go back in the future.
