Let’s face it, for most of us, it’s not in our nature to be still. Many of our days are filled with appointments, tasks, and checking off items on our to-do lists. For myself, looking back over the past three years, which included selling two family homes, downsizing furniture, and items too many to mention, numerous yard sales and moving a total of four times, the word seems hard to comprehend. Writing this to you now, the light bulb just went off! I don’t think I remember how to be still. I’ve got to be straightening something, which includes, now, opening up the MANY bins filled with our Christmas treasures, packed away during those years. Still – how can we be still with all the activity around us during the Holidays? How can you and I rediscover the true meaning of the word still. Maybe it’s just like exercising or waking up to go to church every week – it needs to be a habit. I hate to sound like being still is a task, but if we don’t purposely get into the habit of being still, it won’t happen. There will always be something else to distract us. Now, during this Christmas season of waiting for the Baby Jesus’ birth, is the perfect time to get in the spirit. We have so many things around us that can help take us to a quiet space and realize the beauty of this miracle we are celebrating. We have beautiful Christmas hymns, we have lighted Christmas trees, and our worship places that can take us to our quiet place. What inspired me to choose the word still, was the song at the end. It spoke to me when I heard it playing in the background. However, I now realize, the word was also for me. Jesus wants all of us to remember what it is to be still, and only focused on Him laying in the manger and the love He outpours for us every single day. We only need to be still to feel that love! I hope you’ll join me during these last couple of weeks to take some time to be still with Jesus.
“Now therefore, stand still and see this great thing that the Lord will do before your eyes.” 1 Samuel 12:16

Donna,
Funny that you should pick this word “still” this week. Since I have been down with COVID I have been still and often found myself talking to God. I guess He wanted to get my attention!
Love the song and picture of the snow falling gently to the ground. I find stillness when it is snowing since I know I have no where to rush to. Peaceful also.
