Foundation

What is your foundation built on – solid ground, sand, or rocky ground?  Of course, I’m referring to the foundation of your beliefs.  At one time or another, I can picture myself in all of the above.  Sometimes I feel so strong and it’s easy for me to stand on solid ground, never wavering in my faith.  But I’m embarrassed to say that too many other times I struggle, experiencing that sinking feeling of a foundation built on sand and the weariness of my feet (and body) walking on painful paths of rock and stone.  What do you do to decrease your weariness and stand more often on solid ground, a more unquestionable belief that Jesus is the only thing that can be our own solid foundation?  When we were building our dream house, my husband and I would go almost every day and watch as this structure of brick, stone and mortar took shape, from the foundation up.  What an exciting time to visually experience what started out as a hole in the ground, turn into our home that, when completed, was filled with so much love and memories.  The structure itself was built on solid ground, with strong walls, good quality materials and a builder that had a plan to follow for the interior of our new home.  So it is with Jesus, when He challenges us in His parable as to what our foundation is it built on?   In order to have a solid foundation, we need solid materials ourselves, and the plan of the master builder.  How can we continue to build on our foundation to make it stronger (or maybe our structure needs a little renovation)?   I am not an artist by any means, but today, let’s pull out a piece of paper and draw your current home, along with the foundation as a start to your now standing structure.  What words or favorite scriptures can you put in each of the rooms that will help you start cooperating with Jesus to build a stronger, more stable structure of believing He is always with us, guiding us in building the master plan for our lives?  Keep that with you, and when you feel like your foundation is wavering, pull it out and remember our master builder has a plan and we need only to trust in that plan.  Amen!

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24
