There are times in each of our lives when we all just need someone to believe in us. To believe in our value, to believe in our knowledge, or maybe just to understand and have faith in us. However, deep down in our soul, whether we recognize it or not, life is so much more than believing in ourselves; because, in the long run, those self-beliefs can leave us feeling empty. Unfortunately, as human beings, to believe requires proof – by seeing with our own eyes! I often ponder on the many miracles Jesus performed during His short time on this Earth. Oh, how I wish I could have witnessed one of His healings firsthand. We have heard and read these stories repeatedly over the years; and, if we truly embrace the gospel, we should believe without seeing that Jesus IS the Son of God. We profess our beliefs with our lips and hold them to be true in our hearts. How often, though, do we take our beliefs for granted? Why is it so hard to grasp the magnitude of what Jesus did for us, especially during this Easter season? He physically walked this earth, ground that we also walk every day. He touched someone’s hand, prayed over thousands, performed miracles, and even changed water into wine. Jesus died on a Cross so that our hearts and lives would be one with Him, free from sin. So, let’s pray this Easter season, and going forward, that we no longer need to see, but have the strong faith to believe. Yes, it’s true that we did not touch His hands, but there are those He puts in our path that need comfort and healing. We do not need to doubt even though we did not witness firsthand Jesus’ miracles. He puts them before us every day. We do not need to put our hands into His pierced side to have confirmation that He IS risen. This week, even though we know the story of Jesus’ life and death on the cross, let us never take that story for granted. I challenge you to read the Gospels and highlight every miracle that Jesus performed. I pray this Easter morning we will see more clearly and be always comfortable shouting out those words “I BELIEVE!” How about you? What proof do you still need?
“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” Isaiah 43:10
