How much do we take our hands for granted? One of the many parts that God created, when He created you and me. Did you ever contemplate what He also wanted us to do with those hands? Well, here’s a short list (possibly) that I think how He intended us to use them: Encouragement – How wonderful is it when you know someone is cheering you on, clapping (and cheering too) and patting you on the back for a job well done or support when you need it most. Comfort – How many times have we been both the giver and receiver of the gift of an embrace, a hug, the simple laying on of hands that gives us a sense of peace. Many times, we don’t even realize the power of the little things we do that give someone else comfort in a time of need. Creating – Living in this world, think of the things our hands create that help others. Look at the things around you, in your food pantry, your vehicle, the flowers your hands planted in the garden and the food yours and other hands prepare for family and those in need. We would never be able to list all that our hands create that ultimately serve God’s purpose. Serve – Our hands that feed others is also an opportunity to serve others. Maybe it’s serving a meal to someone in need, but never take for granted it is still humbling to serve those closest to us, our family and friends. Being also grateful for enjoying a meal outside our home due to another person’s hands serving us and expressing our gratitude to them. Prayer – Although we may think of our prayers coming through from our heart and spoken with our lips, our folded hands are also a sign. Nothing is more moving and spiritual than witnessing someone’s hands folded together. They may be praying desperately for their loved ones, giving thanks for all God’s gifts or simply just spending time in God’s presence. It’s something we take for granted – realizing our hands are powerful tools, when we use them for what God intended. As I gaze out my window, deep in thought, I am thankful for the flowers my husband and I planted in my garden, watching them grow every day with our care. Thank you, Lord, for the gift of my hands. May we all use them for your glory every day! Amen
