Rainbow

How many rainbows have you witnessed in your lifetime?  I bet quite a few; and it never gets old does it?  This time of the year, especially here in Florida, it’s hurricane season.   Every year the predictions are plentiful, with the “experts” trying to estimate how many storms will get named, and everyone else praying they’re wrong.  We believe that after the storm, it’s good luck to see that rainbow appear in the sky.  I’ve witnessed God’s rainbows from the mountains of New Hampshire to the clearing skies of Florida and beyond.  It’s a sign that the storm has passed, and brighter days are ahead.  We survived yet another one!  However, unlike the fireworks in the sky that are man-made, God is the One that created this bow of amazing technicolor in the sky.  I believe it’s His sign meant to give you and me comfort during nature’s fury.  We can stop holding our breath and feel confident that our worse fears have finally passed.  We are rewarded with a gift from above with streaks of bright color painted in a bow across the sky – a sign of hope.  I witnessed such a rainbow this week, with my toes nestled in the sand and the rain all but subsided.  Knowing the storm was moving on, I prayed that those in her path would be safe.  However, I also said another silent prayer thanking God for getting us through this one.  Isn’t that what life is all about – experiencing these storms throughout our lives?  And with each storm that passes, it makes us stronger, more thankful, and more aware of He that always saves us.  As I stood there on the beach, phone in hand, taking numerous pictures to capture this little miracle, I felt God’s power as I gazed out at the sea.  He calms our seas and at the end of our day, rewards us with His glorious rainbow.  Who else could have created such a display of beauty and calm? 

My Rainbow of Hope

What a storm we were in.  There seemed no end in sight.

Thunder shaking our very foundation, with stinging pelts of rain pouring down.

Dark, gray ominous clouds hanging heavily above us.

We held on for dear life – we prayed.

When will this storm pass?  We kept praying for relief – for mercy.

And though the storm raged on, hope arrived –

boldly pushing through the sky in the shape of a rainbow of welcoming color,

signaling to us across the still stormy sky –

shining through as a bright sign from above.

God was saying all would be okay and this storm too would pass.
