Don’t panic! It’s not Thanksgiving yet. Funny how we think of gratitude and giving thanks mainly around the holidays. However, it truly should be a year-round practice, with gratitude always being in our thoughts and expressed to those around us. As a child, I remember participating in lots of scavenger hunts in school and birthday parties, and rushing to find as many items on the list that I could in order to win the prize. I’m sure you can recall at least one in which you participated in the past. I thought, with our little and big ones returning to school, let’s keep the summer fun and games going, with a game called “Gratitude Scavenger Hunt” that I came across recently. I hope you’ll play along and even get your family and friends involved. Don’t rush through! I found that reading the list a few times and contemplating each will bring our truest answers to the surface. Your gratitude hunt is not complete until you write down your answers. Note: If you’re stuck on one or two, come back later and complete. Let’s bring more gratitude back into our everyday life, remember to give all credit to our Maker!
- Find something that makes you happy.
- Find something to give someone else to make them smile.
- Find one thing that you love to smell.
- Find one thing that is pleasant to your eyes.
- Find something that’s your favorite color.
- Find something you are thankful for in nature.
- Find something that you can use to make a gift for someone else.
- Find something that is important to you on your journey.
- Find one miracle of God that you are thankful for.
- Find one song that moves your heart.
Good luck on your scavanger hunt! Maybe on your hunt, you will discover the ultimate prize of seeing and feeling the Holy Spirit of gratitude surrounding you.
“In everything give thanks (gratitude); for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
