Acknowledge

My first real job out of high school spanned a period of 13 years.  I think, especially these days, that’s a pretty good run.  I was a secretary, holding a few different positions over those years, each one taking on more responsibility.  For some reason, when Secretary’s Day came around, it was so important to me to be acknowledged for a job well done.  It gave me satisfaction, knowing someone else noticed a job well done.  Isn’t that a hope for all of us – that we are acknowledged, even if it’s just a simple and sincere thank you and that someone actually appreciated our efforts, our sacrifices and sometimes just showing up?  I remember, however, during those secretarial days, feeling empty after my bosses made the effort (some more than others) to shower me with their praise, a gift or just a nice lunch out of the office.  Looking back, I think, “What was I looking for?”  It was never enough for some reason.  I think it’s in our DNA and natural to feel needed and for that other person to recognize that in us.  But then steps in Jesus – our Jesus.  He belongs to both you and me – everyone who acknowledges His presence.  He doesn’t play favorites.  He doesn’t love you more than the person waiting in the checkout line at the grocery store, or the person standing on the corner that we may not choose to acknowledge.  The best news is knowing Jesus acknowledges every one of our gifts, and all our accomplishments.   Isn’t that all that is important?  And He never leaves us feeling empty.  Open up your bible and read about how He acknowledges everyone He came in contact with as He spread the word of His Father.  Jesus changes lives! He sees even the smallest acts of charity, our work that may seem thankless here on Earth, the dishes we cleaned up last night for our family, or the extra mile we went for a friend that may have gone unnoticed.  He sees it all and will always acknowledge your importance and value.  After all, God created you!  That’s all the acknowledgement that I need.  How about you?

“In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”      Proverbs 3:6
