Connection

Decorating for Christmas is not an easy, one day, event in our home, especially when it comes to opening the bins that were packed away containing all the extension cords for our holiday lights.  I’ve tried many times to avoid this frustrating task by busying myself with other “chores” while my husband starts the process of configuring what cord goes where in his plan of connecting everything together to produce the desired results.  However, it’s all worth it, as the skies darken for the night, and we are rewarded for our efforts.  The outside of our home is basking in light; and together, my husband and I both exclaim the traditional words, “It looks like a winter wonderland!”  Yes, even here in Florida!  The same goes for lighting up the inside of our home.  What has made it easier is the technology of using Smart Plugs, which, when set up properly, allows all our lights to be connected through my husband’s phone.  Unfortunately, I must add, I have no idea how to make all these connections work without him.  I’m serious when I tell him he can never leave me because without him I would be sitting in darkness.  But the most important connection this season doesn’t need to depend on technology that often isn’t dependable or is frightening just trying to understand how it works.  Jesus, as they say, is the reason for the season.  By remembering that this holy and innocent baby came to Earth to be our only power source, we are rewarded with the brightest of lights at the end of this season of anticipation.  Making a connection with Jesus can bring a new perspective to our stresses in life.  Just by connecting with His coming can bring light to a marriage, family relationships and other life challenges that we feel have left us in the dark with no hope.  Let’s remind ourselves that, unlike the warning to be careful around any electrical connections, we can find safety through the One connection.  I challenge you during this season of Advent to brighten up your Christmas home with the main power source that promises us the joy of the season and into a new year.  What little things can you connect with your extension cord to light up your Advent journey this year?

“I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but have the light of life.”  John 8:12
