Truth

I used to love watching game shows in my younger years.  It brings back fond memories, recalling coming home from school and turning on the television, munching on my after-school snack before dinner, and watching shows like Let’s Make a Deal and the Price is Right.  I know it sounds crazy, but I could even be known to shed a tear of happiness for the contestants when they won.

Do you know what the first game show that was aired?  Truth or Consequences, and it started out as a radio show back in the 1940’s (before my time).  The premise was the contestants had to perform embarrassing stunts if they failed to answer a question correctly.  Can you imagine if you and I had to follow those rules in our lives today – whenever we failed to speak the truth?  If the ones that failed on speaking the truth had to perform embarrassing acts for all to see, now wouldn’t that be a sight to behold!

We are all overwhelmed with receiving so much information on a daily basis, whether through social media or any other hundreds of venues coming at us from all directions.  How do you and I know what is the real truth and who to listen to?    Jesus spoke the truth during His time with us, but many choose not to believe.  They didn’t see the truth that was right in front of them.

Many times, maybe we’re just afraid of speaking the only truth that matters, thinking we will be looked down upon by others or our beliefs won’t be popular.  Truth means there is proof.  There is no black and white or in between.  Jesus spoke the truth and gave us the only rules for this game show we call life – The Ten Commandments.

Let’s remember to always speak the truth about our faith, hoping that others recognize us as being witnesses of God’s love, forgiveness and power to change the world.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”  2 Timothy 2:15
