Faith

If I didn’t know Jesus, how would I find Him?  If I never stepped foot inside a church, how would I know anything about Him or if He even existed?  If I didn’t listen to the promptings of my heart, that there’s more to life than what I’m living every day, how would I have discovered that there’s so much more?

I was blessed.  My parents took me to church every week, also attending Sunday School and then Vacation Bible School during summer vacation.  They introduced me to Jesus by giving me a foundation to build on.  Most of us, including myself, may not totally understand what faith means at the age of 6 or even 10 (or beyond), but I believe, as a child of God, I was drawn to Jesus even back then.  Sure, there are times as we mature that we think God doesn’t matter or have lost faith when our prayers weren’t answered to our satisfaction, especially when so many times life seems unfair.

Someone once expressed to me, “I wish I had your faith.”  Funny, because many times, when I hear others’ inspiring stories, I wish for the same thing.   Faith, to me, means never giving up; it means always getting up, and it means always looking up, believing that you and I were made in God’s image.  Maybe if we all started looking for more ways to believe in Jesus and have faith that we can’t survive this earthly life without Him, our lives would be so full of light, acceptance and love.

I picture in my mind, as I write this, a physical game of tug of war.  There are two teams vying for the title, with a definite line drawn in the sand.   How strong is your team?   Some days just don’t go right, and we feel the rope slipping from our hands, being pulled towards defeat.  How do you and I stay strong to battle towards victory?  Our only choice is to have faith that God is on our team, contrary to the other team that gives up too easily because they don’t have the right support to win.

My faith tells me that God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit is the only team.  I pray this week that you choose the right team.  If your faith is wavering today, I pray that you have faith, even if it’s only the size of a mustard seed.

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to the mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
