Garden

I love my flower garden!  Every time I walk out my front door or sit with my cup of tea on our back patio, I’m in awe that we finally have an array of plants and flowers that entertain me with their simple but stunning beauty.  However, even in the heat of the summer, when we are all probably looking for more indoor activities than choosing to spend any length of time outdoors in the hot sun, we can’t forget that our gardens still need tending.

Weeds need to be pulled and making sure each plant is properly watered is critical to their survival.  When I notice that even one of my plants looks a little weepy, I’m quick to jump in with my watering can once the scorching sun has started to dip into the horizon.  Regardless of what flowers my husband and I planted up north in our previous residences, our garden always fell short of success.  Unfortunately, it may have been from our inattention to their care most of the time (and a few critters that enjoyed their tasty leaves and blooms).

From giving our gardens now the attention they deserve, we’ve been rewarded with a constant variety of  colorful blooms that brings smiles every time we gaze upon God’s Garden.  That’s right – it is God’s Garden!  He created each seed that, with care, miraculously grows into a garden full of beauty.  Take time this week to appreciate the miracle of the gardens in our lives, gardens of beauty that only God is capable of creating.

But gardens just don’t come as a result from seeds planted in the physical soil.  They also grow from the seeds you and I have planted throughout our lives, through our actions, our words and the people’s lives we touch every day.  Just like the gardens in our yards, they need to be always attended to, so that we create new blooms every day.

What garden have you planted and cared for are you most proud?  I pray you’ll recognize, and give thanks for,  the many blooms you’ve planted and nurtured over the years.  Remember, it is God’s garden!  Don’t forget to always water.

“So, neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”  Corinthians 3:7
