Quotes

As I sit down to write with Jesus each week, I spend time searching for just the right song to create the experience we want you to get.  It’s also important to find a scripture passage and quote to bring a sense of the Lord’s presence alive in your life.  I get most of my quotes from an App called Pinterest; and even during the week, I may see something that catches my heart and save it for later.

Growing up, we can all remember quotes that our parents used that were meant to keep us safe or teach us a lesson.  Many times, those words may have been used in anger when we messed up.  However, as we mature, we understand they always had our best interests at heart.  It was only out of love!  Can you recall any of your parents’ quotes from childhood?  I was excited to get feedback from some close friends and followers, contributing quotes they remember hearing growing up, taking them safely into adulthood.  A few that they shared, “This is only for your own good,” or “Waste not, want not” when we were told to clean our plates during dinner.  Another favorite memory quote was, “Forgive and forget.”

But let’s not forget the wisdom of the Bible and Jesus’ quotes meant to shape our lives even today.  Maybe quotes throughout those pages push us to our limits and seem unreasonable or harsh; but, like our parents, Jesus’ words are meant to keep us safe, teach us lessons and show His love for you and me.   Just a few of the many quotes that Jesus spoke as He walked this earth, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” “Do to others what you would have them do to you,” and “I am the way, the truth and the life.”

So, as we sit around our Thanksgiving table this week, or wherever you may be, what a great topic to recall and share those infamous quotes that bring back your childhood memories and maybe a few chuckles too.  But most importantly, read some quotes from Jesus himself – His words that speak only love to our hearts.

“A new command I give you: Love one another.  As I have loved you, so you  must love one another.” John 13:34-35
