King – Bow in the presence of true royalty

I have to admit I’ve never met a real King or, for that matter, been in the presence of any royalty (except the time I saw Lady Diana drive a Mini Cooper out the gates of Buckingham Palace).  Being in a King or Queen’s presence requires paying attention to proper etiquette and showing the proper respect.  After all, you are in the presence of royalty!  During that same trip to London, my husband and I were also lucky to get tickets to tour Buckingham Palace.  Our trip was special because we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.  As we followed the tour guide through the expansive Palace rooms, we were both overwhelmed with the famous artworks, royal jewels, artifacts and so much more – never having seen something so grand right in front of us.  During our tour, we started to pick which piece of art or fine English china the royal family would be presenting to us as a gift for our anniversary.  Of course, it had to be something not too large and easy to pack.  Of course, we knew that was a fantasy (one can always dream).  What king (or then Queen) would present us peasants with such a gift? But then I remember that I have been in the presence (and continue to be) of the one true King, Jesus.   And you and I don’t need a special ticket to visit our King.   When in His presence, I show the proper respect deserving of a King.  I bow before Him, I am humbled, I shower Him with thankfulness.  Without asking, my King, indeed, bestows on me all the gifts I need.  Our King doesn’t have a palace filled with glitz and gold, only love, forgiveness and promises of entering into His presence in Heaven one day.  So, if you ever have the opportunity to meet an earthly King, it is still wise to show Him respect, but never forget there is only one true King for you and me, our Jesus!  I can hardly wait to see the many gifts He still has in store for me.  How about you?

“So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”
