Umbrella

The sun was shining outside, so I had no idea why this word and subsequent thoughts came to me.  However, I am always up for a challenge, and trust Jesus had His reasons.

You may feel the same when it comes to pulling out your own umbrella.  It’s something I really try and avoid.  I seem to be convinced, every time, I can avoid getting soaked by running for cover to a safe shelter or covering my head with my purse.  But when I do finally admit that didn’t work, I’m caught fumbling around, searching for where I last saw one of the many umbrellas I own.

Think back for a moment to your childhood days.  Our parents always made sure we were prepared for inclement weather.  I can remember my mother making sure I was wearing my galoshes (weatherproof boots), raincoat, many times a rain hat for protection, and, of course, my trusty girlie umbrella.  I walked about a mile to school every weekday, (I really did) so those were important items to keep me warm, dry and protected for my arrival both ways.

Which now brings us to His purpose of the word umbrella.  I knew He had a plan!  Some of us may try and avoid holding onto our protection, thinking we can weather the storm on our own.  However, the truth is that by knowing and keeping Jesus always beside us, He is our own personal umbrella, our shelter from the rain and from outside elements, thereby keeping us warm, safe and dry. We can now be confident that we are always under His protection.

When He walks with us, even during those rainy times, holding onto this Holy umbrella is understanding your hand is in His.

I like to imagine Jesus is guiding our feet through the puddles of life, until each of us reach the safety of our heavenly home.  He protects us when the problems rain down.  We hold onto Him in the strongest of gusty circumstances.  He can even shelter us from the heat and pressure of our day, if only we keep His umbrella close at hand.

I believe, after Jesus gave me this word to share with you, that I will keep my “umbrella” a little more accessible for when the storms present themselves.  It will be a comfort knowing I’m actually holding onto His hand.  What about you?

Thank you, Jesus, for always surprising me with your words and inspiration to share with others.  I am truly blessed.  Please keep us all under your constant protection and love, whatever the weather.    Amen

“For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’”  Isaiah 41:13
