Influencer

It’s one of those popular buzz words today, thanks to social media.  But I was curious to know more.  How does one get to be an influencer?  It reminded me of the once popular commercial when one person in a crowded room starts speaking about their investments with a well-known and trusted firm; and upon speaking the firm’s name, everyone in the room stops suddenly to listen to their advice.

So, I decided to proceed in my investigation, via the internet, on the necessary steps one would take to get a large group of people’s attention.  Whether it’s influencing someone to experience a particular restaurant, buy the next fountain of youth facial cream, or where to book the most memorable vacation, if you market it right, people suddenly stop everything to listen.  It’s amazing to me how some unknown stranger can immediately grab your attention.

Isn’t that what the greatest influencer of all time did?  Jesus grabbed the crowds’ attention wherever He went.  His words spoke to a people who had lost hope.  He spoke with authority, to their hearts, drawing them into believing He was someone special to whom they should listen.  Jesus’ followers started multiplying of that there is no doubt; but so many others feared and felt threated by Him.  It causes me to wonder why some people choose to not believe or stubbornly shy away and doubt the message of Jesus, the most powerful influencer that ever walked this Earth.

His words and His actions were, and still are, proven to the masses throughout the ages, despite crime, wars, famine, and even death on a cross, to stand firm.  Jesus’ message was constant, never wavering.  He lives.  He guides.  He heals.  His existence is proven.  He clearly speaks His words and sells His message – Love!

What a great way to spread Jesus’ message.  Now, the next time we hear the buzz word “Influencer”, we can immediately think of Jesus.   I recognize that He has been my biggest influencer in my life; and I pray that we can all walk in His footsteps, looking for ways to continue to do the same for those around us.

I would love to hear your suggestions on how we can be better influencers in the name of Jesus, who rose from the dead this Easter and every Easter for you and me.  Don’t we owe Him that and so much more?

“Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others.  But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience.”  2 Corinthians 5:11

  1. Donna,

Listening to Fr. Mike and Fr. Ferdinand this weekend with the message of Pope Leo for world peace showed me what an influencer Pope Leo truly is. I can only imagine what a world at peace would feel like. This is what I pray for. You are also an example of an influencer with your words weekly. God bless you.
