Surround

What thought first comes to your mind when you read this word?  Do your thoughts go to fear or confusion?  What do you feel you are surrounded by right now?  Is it love – do you see light or darkness?

When God first brought this word to my mind, it was during my prayer time in the morning.   I immediately felt I was surrounded, and even wrapped, in His love and mercy.  He wants us all to feel surrounded by His light; but how do we do that, you and I?  He teaches us through prayer and scripture that we need to live in the light.  It is by our choice, by staying close to Jesus, that will make the difference.   Many times, when I’m praying for someone that is going through surgery, a health challenge, or maybe feeling overwhelmed because of their circumstances, I picture angels surrounding them, giving them peace, healing or whatever they might need to experience at that particular time.  We all need to feel surrounded by His love, especially in the most difficult of circumstances.  Surrounded by Jesus’ light gives us strength to fight any battle, no matter the outcome.  The practice of visualizing God’s light all around us allows his love to come through to each one of us.

A few years ago, I created a file on my phone where I save inspirational pictures, quotes, scripture and positive thoughts that help me focus and, when needed, change my surroundings from darkness to light.  I know I don’t refer back to these positive quotes and scriptures often enough; but, I will pray that you and I can make more of an effort, in those days when that light feels dimmed, to surround ourselves with ways for our hearts to allow the brightness in from the Lord’s light.  Wouldn’t our day be much better served when we can feel surrounded by the love of Father, Son and Holy Spirit than by darkness and the daily challenges we all face at times.

I challenge you to start your own file, either on paper or on your computer, and collect scriptures that speak to your heart, pictures that inspire you to follow the Lord, and anything that helps you feel surrounded by his all-encompassing love.   Most of mine come from Pinterest, even the ones that I share with you each week.  Maybe you have a favorite?  I hope you will even consider sharing one of your favorite scriptures or inspirational quotes with Jesus and me.

“You are my hiding place; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with songs of deliverance.  Selah.”  Psalm 32:7 **Note:  The word “Selah” found at the end of this verse means to pause and meditate on that thought.
